Baptist Health opening new emergency center for adults and children in Oakleaf Town Center

Jacksonville, FL -

Convenient, high-quality emergency medical care is now available to residents in the Oakleaf area with the opening of a new Baptist Health/Wolfson Children’s Hospital Emergency Center.

The new emergency center at Oakleaf is located on the corner of Argyle Forest Boulevard and Merchants Way, at 9868 Family Place. It’s adjacent to the new First Coast Expressway to conveniently serve families in the rapidly growing area between I-10 and State Road 16.

The $23-million facility features two emergency centers under one roof – the Baptist Emergency Center and the Wolfson Children’s Emergency Center, which is designed specifically for patients age 0 to 17. All Wolfson Children’s Emergency Centers are connected to the only full-service children’s hospital in the region and the only state-designated Pediatric Trauma Center in Northeast Florida.

“At Baptist Health, meeting health care needs for the entire family means bringing our high-quality care closer to where people live and work,” said Darin Roark, vice president of ambulatory campuses and system emergency departments at Baptist Health. “Emergencies can happen at any age, at any time, and we have a responsibility to ensure this growing region has convenient access to our specialized care.”

A uniquely designed, child-friendly entrance will greet Wolfson Children's ER patients, backed by a full emergency team comprised of pediatric emergency physicians with Emergency Resource Group, nurses, respiratory therapists and radiologic technologists. Pediatric pharmacists will be available to consult on medication management and dosage with Wolfson Children’s Emergency Center physicians. In addition, pediatric radiologists with Nemours Children’s Specialty Care will review all pediatric imaging tests.

“Parents like knowing that an extension of nationally recognized Wolfson Children’s Hospital is close by when their child needs emergency care,” said Michael D. Aubin, FACHE, president of Wolfson Children’s Hospital. “Our double-board-certified pediatric emergency physicians and the Wolfson Children’s-trained team at the new Oakleaf emergency center are especially skilled at handling the rapidly changing and life-threatening situations that can occur in children. In addition, telemedicine consultation services will allow the Oakleaf team to easily collaborate with the pediatric physician specialists at Wolfson Children’s Hospital around the clock, when needed.”

The Baptist/Wolfson Children's Emergency Center at Oakleaf is the health system’s ninth emergency center in the greater Jacksonville area. It offers 24/7 ER care, with a full complement of diagnostic services for adult and pediatric emergency patients, including a full-service laboratory, CT scanner, ultrasound, X-ray and emergency medical transport.

The 19,000-square-foot emergency center is the first step in the journey to bring a tailored medical campus to the growing area. The 8.6-acre property will later include a Baptist Health medical office building.
