Tallahassee’s second Wolfson Children’s Specialty Center at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare location will offer families pediatric gastroenterology and urology appointments in person and via telemedicine.

Tallahassee, FL -

As part of a continued effort to offer outstanding, accessible outpatient pediatric specialty services in a convenient setting for children and families in greater Big Bend area, Wolfson Children’s Hospital of Jacksonville, in partnership with Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH), is opening a second Specialty Center location in Tallahassee. Services at the new Wolfson Children’s Specialty Center at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare will be provided by pediatric specialists with Nemours Children’s Specialty Care, Jacksonville.

The new 3,500-square-foot Wolfson Children’s Specialty Center at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, located at 2418 East Plaza Drive, will offer outpatient pediatric urology and gastroenterology (GI) services, with room to expand and add other outpatient pediatric specialty services in the future. Services at this location will be provided by Nemours Children’s Specialty Care, Jacksonville, which has offered pediatric urology services in Tallahassee since 2008 and will now relocate to the new Specialty Center. Pediatric cardiology care will continue to be provided at the Wolfson Children’s Specialty Center at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare located at 1132 Lee Avenue.

“By providing specialty care services closer to home for the children of the greater Tallahassee area, which includes Southwest Georgia and Southeast Alabama, we eliminate the geographical barrier to specialized care,” said Michael D. Aubin, FACHE, president of Wolfson Children’s Hospital of Jacksonville. “We are grateful for our long-standing partnership with Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, which has allowed us to continue expanding access to pediatric care and improve the health and lives of children in the greater Big Bend area. Through our decades-long partnership with Nemours Children’s Specialty Care, Jacksonville, children get specialty care through experts in their fields.”

“One of the ways TMH elevates the standards of health care practice, quality and innovation in our region is through strategic affiliations with other nationally recognized leaders in specialty care, like Wolfson Children’s Hospital,” explained Mark O’Bryant, president and CEO of TMH. “We care deeply for our community’s children and families and are proud to work with Wolfson Children’s to bring new expertise to our region and keep more children close to home for their care.”

Conveniently located in the Eastwood Complex off US-90 (Mahan Drive), less than a mile from TMH, the new Wolfson Children’s Specialty Center at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare will begin accepting pediatric GI and urology patients in January 2021. Pediatric gastroenterologists and a pediatric urologist with Nemours Children’s Specialty Care, Jacksonville, will be on-site for patient appointments two days a month. A staff member will facilitate telemedicine appointments to connect patients in Tallahassee with the Nemours Jacksonville providers when these physician specialists are not on-site.

“Nemours is excited to partner with Wolfson Children’s to offer greater access to pediatric-specialized experts in our state’s capital city,” said Gary Josephson, MD, chief medical officer of Nemours Children’s Specialty Care, Jacksonville. “Our pediatric specialists in urology and gastroenterology provide specialized treatment to children with complex and chronic conditions. Through telemedicine, they will be able to provide more consistent care to patients.”

Since 2016, Wolfson Children’s has partnered with TMH to offer families in and around Tallahassee, Southwest Georgia and Southeast Alabama access to high-level specialized pediatric care close to home. In addition to the Specialty Centers, this affiliation has led to the creation of the Tallahassee Memorial Children’s Emergency Center, located on the second floor of the Tallahassee Memorial Emergency Center - Northeast.
